The flock was founded on ewes from the renowned Sherborne, Blackhill and Prospect flocks. From the outset we focused on ewe and ram performance in order to maximise the efficiency of the flock. When the highly regarded Gwenffrwd flock reduced in size we worked with Tony and Laurel Brookin to integrate their highest index sheep into the Woodburn Flock and we still work with them on breeding decisions. Elite rams have been brought in to boost our genetic pool, most recently the highest index rams available from the Huish, Blackhill and Paddock Leach flocks in 2024/25. In 2025 we had 4 of the top 5 index ram lambs in the UK flock book. Whilst our focus is on efficiency and performance, this is constantly balanced with conformation and breed type. Above all, we are looking to produce a healthy sheep that is resistant to disease and will produce lambs that are similarly resilient and efficient in all conditions.
